Jane returned to New Canaan with her husband Brian in the 1990s, moving into into her childhood home to raise their son and daughter. For more than twenty years she has served on the Board of Horizons National, an organization committed to improving the life trajectory of students from low-income families instilling a joy of learning and skills for success.

Allison Howell Williams grew up in New Canaan, working at the mozzarella booth at the Farmers Market, singing to residents at Waveny Care Center, and candy hunting at MacKenzie’s. Special thanks to all of the New Canaanite families who shared stories of how they came to town, set down roots, and forged a community so incredible that we all want to stay put, including the Stoddards, the Ruccis, the Francos, the Bachs, the Stewarts and the Karls.

A special toast to Ellie and Hank O'Neil, who knew that mobilizing the community to help seniors age in place, right at home in their beloved New Canaan, was not only a great idea, but also realistic. To their realizing their vision, which we celebrate today with our luncheon and which we celebrate everyday in our mission.

In 2019...

Staying Put responded to 2,462 calls to give our 250 members help, support and answers. This included 3304 rides door-to-door, 348 home maintenance and technical assists, 72 in-home friendly visits, 143 confidential health and safety consultations, 174 care connections outreach efforts, 123 errands, and 183 referrals to service providers offering discounts. We also organized 95 events and educational programs with a total of of 1750 attendees.

2020 has presented a new set of challenges...

Seniors, who experience loneliness in the best of times, have been forced into prolonged isolation with the pandemic. Staying Put has kept pace by increasing our well-being checks, mobilizing even more volunteers to deliver groceries and run errands, helping with technology (critical for virtual doctor visits), delivering meals, creating virtual social events, collaborating with community organizations for seminars and lectures, and so much more.

This is our wheelhouse, this is what we do.
When our senior neighbors face new and unique needs, we are there.
How are we able to do it?
With your help.

We cannot be there for them if you are not there for us.

Support your senior neighbors today by supporting Staying Put in New Canaan.
