History
Staying Put in New Canaan, Inc. is a member-based, volunteer-supported, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated
to helping seniors in New Canaan live safely in their homes and actively engaged in the community as they age.
Staying Put in New Canaan was founded in 2007 by long-time town residents who appreciated the community of New Canaan, its resources and history, and who were committed to living independently as they grew older. They modeled the program on Beacon Hill Village in Boston, a grassroots organization launched in 1999, which advocated freedom and control for seniors on issues like housing, medical care and social activities. There is now a network of 200 "villages" in operation across the United States, with another 75 in development. Staying Put in New Canaan is considered the premiere suburban model, producing innovative programs and services, participating in strategic discussions on issues related to "aging in place," and providing guidance to nascent villages.
