Medicare Assistance

Two Medicare counselors are available at Lapham Center to assist with Medicare enrollment, Medigap questions, and Medicare Part D review. This service is provided free-of-charge by the CHOICES Program of SWCAA (Southwestern CT Agency on Aging). Call 203-594-3620 to schedule a one-hour appointment.


Community organizations:

Family and Children's Agency - A not-for-profit social services and home health care agency providing a variety of services in Fairfield County. FCA links people with skilled professionals in such areas as counseling, family support and services for seniors.

Getabout - Provides transportation services in town to the elderly, handicapped or disabled. Two wheelchair accessible vans operate 9 hours a day Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings. Voluntary contributions of $3.00 per one way ride are suggested to help defray expenses.

Health and Human Services Department of the Town of New Canaan - Provides a broad range of services for all residents of New Canaan, including health care information and referral and community and public health nursing. Administers numerous income-based programs.

Lapham Community Center - Offers classes and programs for all adult New Canaanites. These include education classes in the arts, computer, exercise, language, history, music, writing and yoga. There are also day trips, free Friday films, lectures and more.

Meals on Wheels - Volunteers deliver hot and/or cold meals, Monday through Friday, to people unable to shop or cook for themselves. Costs for this service are kept modest.

New Canaan Library - Provides free access to books, books on tape, CDs, DVDs, magazines, newspapers and reference materials via the Internet at computer work stations. Also hosts hundreds of book talks, classes, concerts, lectures, children's programs and art openings.
